Blacksmith strike gone awry. I laugh, but I've done this myself, splitting wood with a maul. It's funny, but it also demonstrates that there are various different strikes and postures, and that smacking something with a hammer carries a variety of risks.

You lose up to 80% of the striking force on a sledge by choking up on the handle. If you are only going to use half the handle cut the rest of it off.
