Looked like an old Honda motor (maybe a 90?) but didn't seem to use the gears, nor have any brake mechanism. I'd give it a spin though!

Absolutely right! I saw the disc thinking it was just a guide or something, but didn't see the caliper. Thanks!

As for the low buck version...I rolled in a few tires as a kid but not down a hill like that into traffic. His jump at the end of the splash decreed his thankfulness for surviving idiocy.

However I did cardboard slide down our back hill just as steep and almost as long as that one, in a refrigerator box with 2 others. Wasn't pretty when we hit a hidden, sharp, big rock near the bottom which shredded the box and tossed us out to tumble another 40-50' to the bottom, just prior to hitting a concrete gutter.

No more boxes but continued to cardboard slide down that hill every summer for a few years. A whole lotta fun!
