Back in 1949 - Oldsmobile introduced the 88 aka The Rocket 88. This was the first thing I thought of when I saw the clip, so I will draw the comparison.

Obviously the Rocket 88 was 5 years before the F-88, but there is mention of the Olds 4 barrel Super 88 V8 motor which in the F-88 was 324 cu-in and 250hp. The Rocket 88 in 1949 it was a 2 barrel 303 cu-in V8 with 135 hp motor. Interesting what 5 years can do...

Pontiac had a Corvette as well. Of course, like Oldsmobile they presented it as completely unique car unrelated to the Corvette, as if it wasn't obviously just a warmed-over Corvette with a **** ton of chrome.
