Space under the spindle nose can be a problem. This simple rigid 2 piece - 20mm high clip on holder uses the space above the spindle nose to hold the indicator. This allows the stylus tip to be only 20mm from the spindle nose face. It can still swing to over 200mm for large pieces or tramming the head. Although the hexagonal spacer is precisely machined in line with the spindle axis the DTI can still be fine tuned to the centreline of the spindle by pivoting on the spigot. This is to suit my vertical mill but can be modified to clamp or clip onto any size or shape spindle.
