I just spent a minute (AFTER watching how it was made!) to figure how it showed the cars through the 'ladder'

That is the trick your mind plays on you because the way the ladder was drawn and the position of the camera it makes it look almost as if the ladder is leaned against a wall the cars pass over the lines drawn to look like a ladder quickly enough that unless you look real closely your mind tells you they went under it
If you have to, just slow the video down to its slowest speed then concentrate on the ladder not the cars once you see it you can't unsee it
