    Adjustable Vise Stop

The screwless vise on my mini-mill has a threaded hole in each side of the fixed jaw.

The first-generation stop was just a piece of flat bar with a hole in it. Great for aligning stock with the end of the vise jaw, but not adjustable at all.

The next generation was a plate that holds a rod. Rod "length" is adjustable, and a slot in the plate provides for 2D positioning of the rod relative to the vise jaws. This works well if the material is not wider than the vise.

Final (so far) is the addition of a spacer block for the plate. This allows 3.5" of positioning freedom beyond the side of the vise jaws. (If I need anything wider than that, I'll probably just attach something to the mill table.) The spacer can be mounted to the vise such that it is clear of both the top and inside faces of the fixed jaw.

Plate is from aluminum flat bar, dimensions in the plan. The standoff is 1.25" diameter aluminum round bar. The rod is 1/4" drill rod. All hardware is the same thread size so that a single tool can be used for installation and adjustment of the stop.
