    I'd like to know how they drilled into the sectioned column-ends for all those anchor bolts, assuming they had to be relatively "deep" holes to accommodate the anchors. It must require a special machine to do it with any kind of precision.

    It was most likely cast in place as the column was poured
    Never try to tell me it can't be done
    When I have to paint I use KBS products

    Yep. But I was looking at the pour marks left by the inconsistent placement of the forms and the fact that the concrete extends a little down the side of the tip plate.

    I can't help but wonder if any of the seismic isolation devices will be very effective in real world massive earthquakes when the ground actually has upheaval of s few feet. Minor shaking of an 8.5 is nothing when compared to what will happen when tectonic plates slip over one another. Can any tall building survive even a 2° tilt of the surface.
