Aerial lift brings 40-ton heavy equipment up the Swiss Alps - video and photos

A heavy aerial lift, constructed for transporting heavy equipment to build a dam in the Swiss Alps. I was instantly reminded of Toolmaker51's avatar!

Lifts up to 40 tons, and I believe it claimed some world records for heavy lifts (hard to pinpoint through Google Translate). This was done by the Swiss manufacturing operation of Garaventa Lift.

Brings new meaning to the word gondola. Holy Kadoodle that's amazing to transport that stuff like that.

Most impressive. I have to wonder if the lift will be converted to a people mover after the construction project is finished.

Beyond all of that I’ve always found that Switzerland to be one of the most interesting countries on the planet. Their civil defenses are amazing. I once had a long online chat with a Swiss woman that detailed some of the policies. For example all homes and businesses are required to have a bomb shelter. Often those shelters are connected by tunnels that lead from house to house and to defense hard points.

    Then there is chocolate.

And to think my wife was reluctant to even ride a gondola when we were there
