    Angle Plates

Made a new set of angle plates yesterday from 1/2" thick 4140 hardened and ground, I already had a set of plates that were 1/4" thick and another set that was 3/4", but sometimes the 1/4" thick plates aren't wide enough for stability and sometimes the 3/4" thick ones are too wide to fit where I want them.

These new plates are the standard 30°-60°-90° and 45°-45°-90° but I made another plate with an angle that sometimes I could use which is 22.5°, so I made a 3rd plate at 22.5°-22.5°-135° which will come in handy once in a while.

I didn't take any photos of the machining and grinding processes just a couple photos of the comparison of the 3 sets of plates.

As always thanks for looking and happy machining

    Doug

Beauties Doug. Quite a collection of metrics on your table there, always things to measure. Thanks for posting your new additions!

I don't recall seeing any of your posts about your heat treating systems (quench, treat, temper, etc). Is it a commercial oven or shop built? Would love to see/hear more if you are up to it.

    Thanks PJs
I do my heat treating using an oxegon and accetylene torch with a 3/4" diameter rose bud tip, it gets the temp up pretty dang fast, I just go by the color of the steel, been doing it that way for many years ol pal, it's something you learn in time and through trial and error.

But I am collecting parts and pieces to build a forge, not to make knives or anything just for heat treating, these large bottles of oxegon and accetylene I have are getting real expensive to refill.

    Thanks PJs
