    I have seen one of these at the New England Wireless and Steam Museum in Rhode Island. It's an interesting design and fascinating to just watch it run:

    Very cool. Is that sump supposed to be (more) full of oil? Looks like those ball joints are supposed to get an oil bath on every rotation.

    I learned from the video, we are looking at the device upside down, with the bottom cover off. The vertical shaft the mechanism slides on, is supposed to be supported on both ends. With the cover on, the shaft would be more fully supported and the whole mechanism would be running in oil.

    I would be happier with outboard supports for the shafts to lessen sideload on the drive but the principle is brilliant!
