Anvil holdfast

I got the idea for this off Pinterest, but I do not know whom to credit for the idea. After I made one, I found it was limited up to about 18mm, so I have made another.

It takes only 10 seconds to change between them, but normally they will hang on a hook with the spring.
Not very even, is it? The one in the second picture shows the spring attached to a coach bolt driven into the stool, which is maple, but unfortunately it’s too dark to make that out.

Hi Philip, You are very right as to the usefulness of the hold downs you have shared. There are times I curse at evolution for not blessing me with extra arms & hands. How handy would that be in the shop & I'm sure the wife would not have complained either. Win, Win.

So of course the hold downs are a handy thing to have when things become unruly on the anvil, Thanks Philip.

There are times when these slip over clamps are preferable to a pritchel hole clamp. just like tools made for the hardy. Forging tools are only limited by the blacksmith's imagination or need
