    I'm doubting this for American apples, at least not for out-of-hand consumption. The last time I checked in on an apple packer, the fruit was conveyed via water, not belts, in order to minimize bruising. This handling suggests juicing or cidering or sauce. In fresh fruit bruising takes away shell life.

    There is a huge push to automate apple picking in the USA. I read articles about automating hand picking, but there are moves to improve harvest by having quality fruit and salvaging the rest for other uses. Fruit that you grew can be captured with this technique and not just left to rot.

    This picking technique is how blueberries and many cane berries are picked...
