Just how hard is it for a person with no electronics to make up a positioner for cutting gears?
Nelson
Nelson, looking that this design it appears to be a stepper motor and Arduino. So the wiring is straight forward. There are many tutorials for doing that around the web. Buttons are also simple and if you pick an I2C based screen that only has 2 wires and power
For gear cutting the mechanics are important, you need to ensure no play in your chuck and minimal backlash in the gears.
A year ago I had zero electronics knowledge,I have since built a cnc plasma/router and this indexer. This indexer was pretty simple my biggest challenge was soldering the lead outs for the buttons I have a tremor in my hands making intricate work difficult. Here are some links to sources I used in building the indexer.
Snailworks Electronic Index Build Log ;https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNC...zLfyMQmp31DnjA [myfordboy you tube channel]; https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDG...y8IScMqHHTy9Gg [arduino programming electronics academy] I took their short intro course to get a basic knowledge of how to program. I used Gary Limings' sketch[program] to run it. Don't be intimidated you will enjoy the process. You can email me with any questions. jensen.neil52@gmail.com
Crimp connectors is an alternative
Not an option, had to solder to pin on back of led. the rest of the soldering not too bad just had to time my shakes lol.
I did something like this a few years ago. It was my second Arduino project.

Very nice, I'm going to just jump on one and go for it.
Thanks
I hope you will post when you are done. I set up on the mill today and going to cut some AL in the AM to see how accurate it is.
