Need to see the rest of that operation!! There is to be SO MUCH more involved with milking a cow than just hooking them to the milker. There is all the feeding, cleaning their "living quarters", processing the manure, birthing, the list goes on

Have to imagine that milking station operates almost continuously in order to be profitable. Pausing only to be cleaned. A milking parlor is cleaned after each milking session. That happens 2-3 times each day.

Then there is all the feeding, cleaning their "living quarters", processing the manure, the list goes on.

This is just a small operation..

Our local community has a dairy fest every year, and its an opportunity for the public to see all the operations of large dairy farm and a fun event for education and kids.
We've toured a couple of dairy operations in eastern SD, and they had very similar operations as shown in the video above.

The best way to give the townie kids an education was to put a pitchfork or a manure shovel in their hands

A friend of mine's son in law has a dairy farm in Indiana. They have 10,000 milk cows, about 100 calves a week are born and they produce a lot of power from methane, from the manure. Each cow has a chip in their ear and when done being milked a record of how much and what time is recorded.
They have a milking ring like shown above.

I doubt that there are many small dairy farms left any more like the 50 to 250 cow farms I was used to seeing around where I grew up. Back then kids could make a decent enough wage to help out with family expenses. Lots of hard work but sure taught them a better work ethic, than a sacker at the grocery store.
