Traveling tractors and balers where a part of life when my Dad grew up in Southern England. Everyone from the surrounding area would set up camp at a farm for the harvest, have a break of a few days when finished then move to the next farm. Machinery operators got paid a fee and a small percentage of the crop. Hauling was done with Horse and Oxen. He said a lot of Gypsies used to follow the machines so there was a real carnival atmosphere and all those small jobs that the Gypsies were good at got done as well.
