    Bandsaw Gear Reduction Method

I decided to add a gear reduction to my wood cutting band saw so I could cut metal. First I modified a auger transmission from a Honda snowblower. 11:1 reduction.

Then I added a treadmill motor and speed control.

Now I can control the blade speed for wood or steel with no loss of power...

I did a similar setup on my bandsaw but I was lucky and stumbled on a DC motor mounted to a worm drive gearbox that was destined for the trash. Turned out it needed only new brushes for the motor. The DC motor with a controller does great speed control.

Repurposing a snowblower auger gearbox is very clever. From the look of it, that looks to be a pretty nicely constructed gearbox, not surprising coming off of a Honda snowblower. Nice clean setup you made there, thanks for posting.
