When I see pictures like this I wonder if they really dressed like that in the lab?
I suspect that this was just a photo op, and they wear coveralls when actually doing their research.

Some places, yes. At the beginning of the voice mail business I had to be in a suit while crawling around behind the racks and on the floor installing stuff at Charles Schwab. Problem with small companies, the design engineer is also an installer.
