A Cardiologist recently told me that the heart muscles are "hard-wired" to beat, even without external stimulation. So, along with being the perfect pump and valve system for our fragile blood cells, it also has a built-in astable multi-vibrator, which is externally controllable to adjust speed up or down, as required, to support the overall organism (human body). And, on top of all that, every cell of the heart reproduces itself exactly many times over the life of the organism. We are wonderfully made.
