Bench Grinder: Angle setting gauge for tool rests

When working on a small machine like the TAIG Micro Lathe it is important to keep the cutting forces small; and to keep the tool bits sharp. That means frequent re-sharpening without wasting tool bit substance. The set angles of the tool rest need to ‚stay’ so that a shallow ‚shave’ is sufficient to remove the growing radius on the cutting edge. A second advantage of being able to adjust repeatably the grinding angle is to work with proven parameters - all the more important with small machines.

As I didn’t find (and never saw) a gauge or method to adjust the angle of tool rests I built a small gadget which allowed exactly that. Here I’m offering you the basics - perhaps to build your own gadget.
