My wife would love for me to make one of those! That way she wouldn't have to fake paddle in the front of our canoe!
With out a seat back must be a real ab workout. Still want one

Nicely engineered paddling system. Very smooth and well built. I don't see any deflection at the sides of the canoe and it's really moving fast! But wouldn't a double paddle wheel system be a little more efficient though? You could put 6 or 8 paddles about the same size on each side that way. The peddling structure is already there and you don't have to worry about stabilizing with the linear guides. The extra weight could help act as a flywheel to make it easier to sustain... Hmmm... and I live 1/4 mile away from a river... That's it, I'm buying a canoe on Craigslist this weekend! I'll let you know how it works when I'm done!
