Gasoline in the bilge. You're supposed to run a blower for a while before starting an engine to clear out any fumes. This ain't something new! I believe I first read about this being a problem in a Travis McGee novel by John D. McDonald. IIRC, there is a U.S. Coast Guard class you can take (for free, back when I got my first boat) that tells you all the stuff you should know before trying to take a power boat much of anywhere.
