Bolt & Screw Length-Quick Reference for sorting.

I have a card file I have turned into a bolt and screw storage cabinet. While building "things" I always end up with a handful or two of loose bolts that need to go back into their respective bins. I got tired of reaching for the tape measure so I marked the top side of the drawers with 1/2" & 1" graduations. now I just hold the bolt up to the drawer and I know exactly what bin to put it in...
The brown one in the middle of the pic...

Marked top edge of all the drawers.

I even did some of them from both ends. (For left handed bolts...)

This started when I marked one of the bins. Then I figured it was easier to mark the drawers, then they never walk off and get lost...

It works and sure does save a lot of footsteps!

Well, this took about 5 minutes, was absolutely free and fit on the tops of those 3/8th inch wide drawer fronts.... Those tapes are nice but, for this purpose, a quick marking with a tape measure works fine...

Oh come on Marv, at $7.99 for each drawer that would cost a fortune, all of us are not on rich retirement plans.

Ralph, you need to read more closely. The roll I suggested has 41 one foot rulers on one roll. For $8 that's probably enough to do every drawer in your shop.

Sorry Marv, I know I should not just glance at things, especially things you post.
