What nobody is smart enough to make the table tall enough to stand up and do that? or stack something on the table to place the work piece on.

I did so much of this. Wow. Back when my Dad did cabinets.

Two possible ways it is sticking hot melt glue layer on the paper thin veneer or dry PVA glue. The first is pretty strong. The second is hit and miss.
