It is, but United is planning to use them for NY-Europe routes, like the Concorde flew. If I'm not mistaken, though, Boom is working to do something about the shockwave that causes a sonic boom, so it may be able to get an exemption from that FAA rule.

I loved the sonic booms where I grew up in socal...

I shall be watching with interest, I kind of convinced myself there was more than just 'disturbing cattle' as a reason for the concorde ban.

Actually, it might be a good idea to have several fighter jets flying over the cities in a spiraling lazy 8 pattern going from mach .7 to 1.5 randomly day in and day out.
This might condition the dwellers to hearing faster than sound planes once in a while and give them something tangible to be offended of. instead of worrying if pancake syrup is oppressive or if cockroaches are both racist and offensive since the name implies the male dominance due to the suggestion of the phallic in the name or since they are categorized by country IE German, American, Oriental, Mexican, Madagascar, ETC.
. Let them be concerned about their bone China tableware is going to survive the next sortie of booms. And just for giggles and grins drop the random 250 lb. inert bomb on vacant areas, that might help to dispel or deter some of the drug traffickers and gangs
