In my first student job on campus, I worked in an electronics lab in the Civil Engineering school. We built some of the early computer-interfaced data collection systems for bridge monitoring. Some were 100 channel, 12 bit strain-gage systems to monitor bridge movement over time.
Bossman said that a fully loaded semi running about 70 would lift you off the deck when it hit the expansion joint. So, yes; bridges are truly a dynamic structure.

I once had to change a tire on a concrete bridge several miles long at 3 AM. It was incredible how much that thing moved when a semi came across. This is 3 lanes plus shoulders in each direction so must weigh millions of tons. When driving across you don't feel anything.

my step son wes a bridge builder, he;s a good ole redneck.not real swift. but he was the smartest on the crew.....skeery thought. although Ive driven across the bridges many many times as have millions of others....that fact dont give me a warm&fuzzy feeling. with that said.he was a stickler on safety. he watched as the rest of the moron crew demolished a huge crane after he told them how to do it and how not to do it....they did it their way. no wonder why there are oh somany crane ax-a-dents. you cant fix stupid
