    from memory the BT-7 was a Christie design, which meant it could run with it's tracks off on the road much akin to a skidsteer. The Christie designs all had longer travel suspension, and rubber faced road wheels. A few US designs tried them, but the army Dept favoured the design based on needing tracks, Mr Christie sold the designs to a number of other countries, and Russia used the concept in a number of their earlier tank models. The Christie design was not suitable for heavy tanks, mostly the light to small medium sizes.
