They pull this **** in Australia as well. They couldn't possibly sell them or donate them to trade schools, I'm in education and am constantly told we have no money for "that" I was once told there was no money for new light bulbs! Currently I'm having to beg and grovel for a bit more square footage in the workshop. A couple of those cars would cover the cost.

If all manufactures concentrated on manufacturing goods with a minimum of a million use cycle life span and rebuildable. many things would last most of the end users 40 to 50 years or longer. This would reduce the environmental cradle to grave impact by many factors.

Why not sell them to overseas buyers and use the proceeds to fund education, or food & shelter to those in need?

Cash for clunkers was a well meaning economic and environmental catastrophe. Also I don't care if the professional swindlers at the car dealerships starve to death. The entire reason those people exist is to screw people to the maximum extent possible.
