American Tool Works for June. It's a bronze or babbit head stock; a drip oiler right atop the spindle. Grandpa to my avatar. Familiar with some of them, all tingly looking at big swing capacity; but August [a special month to me] on trundle wheels? Such a bed would require twice the iron of comparable swing to maintain rigidity. Anyone seen the like?
And, September [?] THAT'S a lathe bed, no rigidity questions. The wonder is what means were provided to level such construction. Notice the additional way and carriage support at floor level?
Again I recommend Johnny Cash cover of Guy Clark's Heavy Metal (don't mean rock and roll to me) Different subject but exactly same context. I don't know why I like to drive 'em like I do / It ain't nothin' but a hundred and seventy-five thousand pounds of steel / Could be the money babe, could be the power / Could be I love the way it feels
Give it a listen. If words could ever paint a picture...

    Cool stuff Dave.
