when the gears are aligined straight and spaced correctly and running true they should be pretty quiet. my 9x20 enco was horiffic, lots of noise, lots of run out bots wobbly and up&down...runout on the gears.after getting everything squared away they are quiet. also check for burrs on the gears. I bushed the gears to get the run out issue fixed.the holes were not in the center..go figure, somethings cant be fixed and stupid is one of them. someday Ill build a reverser for mine.
