    Case tractor steering cyl socket

the JJ Case tractors of the 60s had very simple steering cylinders held on at the rod end by a ball joint to remove it you need a tang socket this was what I ground out of an old socket

to fit the slots in the internal nut

If I were to make another one or modify this one I would add an internal cylindrical boss to help keep it located on the nut.
it got the job done and I doubt if the steering cylinders on this tractor will ever need repairing again in my lifetime.
All of the tractor parts places wanted some unwholly exorbitant price for their so called seal kits for the steering cylinders and the rockshaft cylinder so I disassembled them measured the seals and dust wiper looked them up at the seal supply house I use the seals for both steering cylinders and the rockshaft cylinder did not total up to a minimum $25.00 order so I added several other seals for some other projects I am working on even adding in a dozen other small seals and the shipping came to less than what one place was quoting me for the seal and wiper for a single steering cylinder and they wanted shipping on top of that. Luckily everyone was zero stock on everything in kit form. As it was I saved myself over $150.00 going my route.
