These things are crazy. They punch so hard they can shatter aquarium glass. They will absolutely mess up your hand if you get hit.

I had heard the comparison to a .22 but I think it is an exaggeration. Anyone who has shot a lot of .22 ammo, especially through a rifle would have to be skeptical I would think.

Absolutely. I put a .22 through the outside sheet metal, through the inside door card, then into the interior of a early '90s Pontiac Sunbird. I find it somewhat doubtful our little friend the mantis shrimp can punch through a car door.
