Our plant has been using these for about 10 or 12 years: https://www.mcmaster.com/water-leak-diverters
They have these from 3' X 3' up to 20' X 20', have a standard 3/4" GHT fitting in the center and grommets at the corners. With almost 2 acres under a flat roof, we keep half a dozen in different sizes, several lengths of hose, hose repair fittings and a few empty plastic 55 gallon drums for collection.

Many years ago in my classroom, the one wall had an expansion joint at the ceiling that would leak rainwater. Rather than fixing the roof, the District installed an aluminum gutter and downspout - IN THE room to collect water in a large trash can they emptied as needed. Klassy with a K.

Our server room (which was not originally built to be a server room) has water sprinkler fire supressors. When we pointed this out to the PTB, mentioning that a fire or a false alarm could destroy our whole IT infrastructure, seeing as how water and computer racks don't generally work well together, and we should consider budgeting $$$ money to replace it with a proper CO2 system, the response was "It'll be much cheaper just to string up a tarp to divert the water, won't it?"
