That is not the grill. Those are the front wings for downforce. F1 is all about aerodynamics these days, but the designers do not have a free hand. The rules define very tightly the configuration of what they call the "aero package" but those rules change almost annually. So huge amounts of money are spent developing a configuration which will be scrapped and totally redone for the next years rules.

Perhaps this is just semantics. I always think of the "grill" as that part in front of and protecting the radiator for the cooling systems.

In the video, he it cleaning the aerodynamic surfaces of the front wing, perhaps tire debris or a hotdog wrapper.

Interesting info here in regard to the wing design seen in that double stack video. Sometimes the designs are changed between races.

Obviously these comparisons are cherry-picked; still cool. I also believe the disparity here is due in part to some rule changes over the years regarding pit stops.

To be fair, Red Bull are renowned for being the most efficient and fastest pit team, and the Brabham mechanics were having some problems with the left rear. But yeah that shows how much progress has been made

From the driver's lips to the pit Boss's ears, things such as chasis adjustments, is now communicated by telemetry and telephony (well sort of telephony). 1981? walkie-talky.
