Giving employees a false sense of security that the machine can't hurt you is one of the worst ides. Complacency is one of the biggest factors in injuries. "I've always done it like this" or "I've done it that way a thousand times and nothing ever happened before!" or "I guess I just wasn't paying attention that time". A momentary lapse can cause a lifetime of disability.

Never try to tell me it can't be done
When I have to paint I use KBS products
idiocy aside, I take it the laser curtain is set just above the thichness of the maximum sheet capacity of the press?
assuming it's a finger/ pan break, is there an overrride for working aorund prebent flanges? (think the tabs on the sides of a box being folded up)
if the laser can be adjusted, or overridden, then a test like shown is the worst way to breed complacency aorund machines.
if done for sales, I would still use a hotdog rather than what looks like a salesgirls hands.
