Someone asked the other day about chickens attacking and killing each other, here is why you need that spray...

You should see what a Mother Guinea and her pack mates will do to a rattle snake. They will suddenly transform into a mongoose with wings The term death from above takes on a whole new meaning that noisy funny shaped squat long necked prairie fowl, will attack with a vengeance. Using their wings to beat the air, their short legs and taloned feet like an Eagle to take out its eyes while whipping their necks around like the body of a mongoose ripping off the forked tongue with their beaks. By the time the first attack is in progress the rest of the Guinea will be on hand ripping the snake apart. 1 or 2 may die but the snake never lives.

Most people have never even seen a live chicken. Let along witness how "assertive" they can be.

Once I turned over the haybox in my coop and watched in horror and awe as my chickens swooped on the nest of just-born mice that was under it. I had barely enough time to register what they were, then they just >vanished< as my hens made a meal of them! Little velociraptors! I've seen them happily wolf down 6" centipedes, too.

I have worked for 20 years with a mission in the Dominican Republic. Crews worked replacing run down, dirt floor shacks, made from rotting palm fronds, with small more wood and concrete block homes. The focus was actually to get out of the rotting mold, bug and rodent infested huts into a more healthy home.

As soon as we started tearing down a hut, the chickens swooped in to gobble up all of the critters. Some would fly up to perch in a tree to wait for tasty critters, then swoop down to catch a meal. Largest I have seen them take is a rat. 3-4 of them shared the rat.

We had a lot of "city kids" come down in work crews that had never seen a real chicken. Of course, in an all natural environment like that, there were always chicks running around. The kids learned really quickly it is NOT a good idea to try to catch a cute little chick. Momma is never far away!!!!
