clamping fixture for forging a clevis

I needed to make some special clevises out of 1/8x2" flat bar to do this I needed them to be formed completely square with 1" between the legs of the clevis.
My solution was to use 2 pipe holding clamps from a piece of machinery, these were 1inch wide with 2 mounting holes approximately 2 3/8" on centers This worked out just wide enough to allow the flat bar to be placed between the bolts to be used as clamping bolts
After clamping and checking for being square I heated the flat bar at the clamp and bent it 90°, hammering the bends until the flat bar was tight against the sides of the clamp

I was asked to include a bend allowance formula for making bends in sheet metal.
However when heating the metal and hammer forging it into the final shape over a die an anvil or a mandrel the metal becomes compressed and thinned from the process
Here is an article explaining the bend allowances in normal processing such as press breaks. the formula will not work in hammer forging without a controlled consistant striking force being added to the calculations though.

Your forms look like two scrap bearing end caps from some machine.

Actually they are the hold down clamps for hydraulic tubing removed from a scrapped-out Cat.225 excavator boom and stick. I have several in inventory or used to, not so many left. I've had them probably since the late 1980's. Some I keep in the machine shop. those I try to keep paired up according to height, width, length, or depth and radius of the cut out. I have published many of those as other tools in the past.
