Can you imagine the difference in collecting a few ounces of resin in this manor, compared to that of a commercial operation?

As a small feral child growing up in the woods, I used to eat bark from various trees and munch on different types of plants that I found. I have a very distinct memory of the sap in these fir tree pimples tasting absolutely awful. I'm guessing this is not used for food? For what purpose would a person want this sap? Can you make adhesive out of it? Varnish? The stuff is nasty and doesn't wash off your hands.

The sap or resin can be used as a base for making wood putty, for one, a strong adhesive for another don't know about varnish.

I've never heard of that before. I've seen filler made from sawdust and wood glue, but never sap. That's interesting. I learned a thing today. It is a good day. Thanks.

Collect it and boil it then mix it with the sawdust is how I think my grandpa did it but I was maybe 5 or 6 years old, so memories are not always perfect. I know he always made his own wood glue. as well with animal hooves

The odour of (some) solder suggests to me that tree resin is used. Maybe?

I wonder what kind of tree that is? It looks somewhat like a birch but I have never heard of birch sap or resin used for anything.

Doubtful it is for ingestion. Possibly medicinal or adhesive use?

I believe rosin is sourced from pine. I think you can make it yourself with isopropyl alcohol and some sap.

Appears to be a balsam fir. Some type of fir anyway.
