    compact MT2 live center

Hey guys (and gals if any) me again,

Been thinkin of this project for some time now. It's been a fun and somewhat challenging endeavor believe me. With the magic of some clever editing the trials and tribulations seem invisible but be assured I had a few with this one. Anyway the final outcome was well worth it. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I had doing it,

    regards stevoh

I subscribed before your video was even halfway through. Even if the project weren't enough to keep me watching (it is), you have a very entertaining presentation style (camera angles, humour).

    Stevohdee,

Great job on the compact live center! Many years ago I had a small live center known as a "Nyroll" center. It also was quite compact and was very nice to use.

What is the length of overhang from the end of the #2 MT?

    Thanks dick, here's some measurements:
    Overall 133mm
    Point to shoulder 71mm
    Taper 62.5mm
Gap between shoulder to tailstock quill 1mm
Phew that was close to the bone!! Haha
I tried googling nyroll but can't find

    Stevohdee,

Thank you for the dimensions! It sure looks like a nice project.
I did not have success searching for the "Nyroll Center" either. It was sold in the US about 50 years ago and maybe was not a successful product. It had a very small head about the size of a Morse taper shank and was very handy for getting in close to small diameter work.

Sounds neat, wonder what type bearings they ran. I had a live centre with my unimat 3 from memory about 22-26mm diameter body. I think it had 2 sealed in it same as in the one I made but smaller prob 18-20mm & quite close to the wall. It basically stopped turning one day & my first thought was how it came apart, so I held the point in the vice & gripped the shank with vice grips & leather & tapped it apart, phew

    Stevohdee,

I am not at all sure what it had for bearings as it never occurred to me to disassemble it.
By the way, what did you use to do the etching or engraving on the head of your center?
