This is one of those videos that I expected to see them drop the weight and the rest of the floor collapses

any idea on how the mechanism works (the continuous chain lifting then dropping the hammer?
I am assuming it's a lifting hook on the chain, then some form of trip mechanism at the top of the stroke?

Looks like the hammer drops when the "hook" pulls away when the chain rolls back over the top sprocket.

I suspected that, but that limits you to only one hook per chain length..

The mechanism I have yet to figure out is the one the Drill pullstarter works on (rotary motion from drill causes a reciprocating motion) - Every model I come up with the test it seems "nearly right", but not quite...

I watched it frame by frame. There are 2 hooks. The hammer falls a lot faster than the chain travels. The hammer is already down before the next hook is there to pick it up.

It looks like two "hooks" per chain on this machine. One is going down while the weight is going up.

Great idea for a power hammer for forge work. Add or subtract hooks for how many blows per minute you need and set the height and weight for whatever it is that you want to pound...

In the views showing the older guy with a hat, the power cord going behind him gives the illusion of a large crack in the concrete, which makes it seem like he is going to go down.
