GM Delco had a swash plate design that was in my 1962 Pontiac. It was driving the centerline of the piston with 3 radial cylinders, making it a 6 cylinder. Memory is this produced a 4 ton capable system.

The hydrostatic drive on my Kubota uses a swash plate. It's a bit different than this though. The swash plate doesn't rotate. You control the flow of the pump by changing the angle of the swash plate. At least that's my understanding. I've never had it apart.
