countersinking speakers w/o power tools

Hi guys,
I am putting new speakers in nice old boxes, and powered routers make much more mess in the air than saws and drills. So I need a router plane with a circle jig of some sort. Once I've got the sunken seat the through-hole is easy as only the front face of the baffle board is visible. Anyone else done this by hand?
