Guys on board the deep sea drill rigs used to and may still bait a 6 or 8 inch trebble hook tied to a steel cable then hang it from the crane hook and swing it through teh water to try and catch a big amberjack a Marlin or any other large fish. Once I remember a guy catching something that weighed nearly a 1000 lbs SOn't ask me what it was maybe and amberjack or a Allison Tuna not something I'd have on my dinner plate
