It's a good gesture because crypto mining is a scourge, but realistically they were probably already obsolete. Those things have a shelf life shorter than mayonnaise left on hot asphalt. You buy them, run them flat out for 6 months, then throw them in the trash. At that point they barely even make back the cost of electricity. Crypto mining adds up to about 0.5% of global electricity use.

I understand the immense greed associated with this idea. Followed it from the getgo. It's an interesting study in human nature that I have followed at a distance. Something with no value held in high esteem because people believe it has value. Gets harder and harder to produce but, still has no value. It's rife with unscrupulous people that rob and hide the valued items. And has been used for more nefarious transactions that anything other than the US dollar.

But no I don't know or understand it. Therefore I fear it.

I fear the mentality that finds a great idea.

In this case there are two types of people who fear this trend. This who admit they do NOT understand it, and those who REALLY DO understand it.

The ones love it also fall into two groups. Those who THINK they understand it, and those who are CREATING it.
