Never seen anything like it; that it was inspired by others does not lessen your effort, a successful one at that!
I have seen fixtures supporting a router to flat plane or rabbet large pieces. Yours is a branch of that, but far more engineering before hand, and better execution.
I wonder about warping. Do the segments join alternate ends [or opposite faces] to counteract it?
