Recently had to reglaze a couple dozen windows. Many were cracked and others broke when being removed as they had been set into something like rock hard wood putty. I found that spraying some 3M adhesive on the straight edges I was using and letting it tac allowed me to make a continuous scribe that make for cleaner breaks. No more sliding around. Just used a cheap glass cutter.
