 friends in Durango, CO told me a tale of when he got recruited by the owner of a local saw mill to work the green chain, which is where the slabs come off the bandsaw. My friend expressed concern to the owner that he might lose a finger. The mill owner replied not to worry, it only stings for a few moments and you can get right back to work.
