Cylinder block stud insert extraction tool

The traction engine is now slowly going back together. The cylinder block has had the individual parts masked, etched primed and painted so the studs which have all been machined from stainless steel need to be screwed into the block. To ensure that they all fit to the stud shoulder an insert tool was made from a piece 1/4” hexagon drilled and tapped 7BA to accept the stud and M4 for a socket-head cap screw to push against the stud and lock it in the hexagon. Then it can be screwed home with an Allen key in a controlled way rather than damaging the stud using pliers etc. Once screwed home tight a 1/4” spanner holds the hexagon and the M4 socket head screw can be released and the hexagon unscrewed leaving the stud locked into the block. This can also be used to remove studs.

There are commercially made tools to do this job but this works without having to spend any money and the chances of getting a 7BA one is near on impossible (I would have thought)
