Why call it directional it is not steerable, has to return to where it started.
Because the machine that bored the horizontal hole is called a directional drill. the drill probe bit is steerable to a degree by a device a guy holds while walking above the drill bit he can make it go up or down and keep it traveling in the intended direction.
