Having the same need in the future, I was wanting to make something that I can use for more than just one purpose. Want to be able to clamp this bit in my toolpost and then by using the index thingy I made with the gear be able to drill hole or at least just mark them in the X axis om my lathe.

Unfortunately nobody describes how they made this part. Is steel on steel good enough for "limited use" do I need brass bearings and what should the clearance be shaft to bush or should one go for roller bearings like here and then what about some sizes and specifications of the bearings?

The designer/manufacturer paid the school fees please share. Is that about a 16mm dia shaft or is it 12mm. If I knew that I could make a fairly accurate estimate of the other sizes.

Helped me a lot when I made my flycutter. If it was not for the word of warning I would have also made the slot for the cutter on the wrong side of the center.
