Diy hydraulic puller / pusher

Made my version about the diy hydraulic bearing puller.

I have seen some videos about making one, but i wasn't convinced about the presented structures.
So, i made my own version.

Used 5 ton jack and forged claws taken from old broken puller. ( broken threads )

Because wall of the jacks oil chamfer is only 2mm thick.
Connecting claws directly to it, isn't very strong solution.

Therefore i made a support ring around it from 5mm thick pipe.

Claws we're connected to this stronger pipe.
I adjusted the diameter of the pipe with suitable thickness steel plate. To get firm connection between pipes.

Before welding the claw holders, i placed oil chamfer inside the support ring.
Welding shrinks metals when welds cool down.
After welding connection was very tight. ( Too tight to get oil chamfer inside it afterwards )

Then i welded oil chamfer and support ring together, from The bottom edge. ( this sequence gives minimal distortion )
Before welding, i filled oil chamfer with shield gas, to get pure, weld trough connection.

Tilted the pump mechanism 90 degrees, and shaped handle connection for better usability.

Handle for the valve, and for the pump.

Brass pipe fitting and a piece tube, are used to get jack to work sideways too. ( or upside down, if wanted )

Fitting is hammered to its place. Brass is softer than cast steel, so it doesn't crack it easily. But gives tight connection

How tight those bearings we're.

I also decided to demonstrate the use, with a task that you can know that it requires some force.

Love it!!!! Thanks for sharing this.

Just a suggestion, though. If you added small linkage joints between the mounting tabs and the puller arms, you could get more flexibility and adjustability out of it.

I started to build one of these about four years ago but then changed my mind and never completed it. I love how you built this. I feel inspired enough that I may go back and finish mine.

I made this for bigger tasks. But i have solutions for that.

Here is my simple claw support solution, for removing smaller bearings etc..

This is made for bigger bearings. So in my use linked joints kind of solutions, would be something that i most likely remove quite fast. ( those prevent some uses )

I'll just say it's terrific. Can you imagine removing a large engine dampener, by working a handle instead of messing with a combination or socket wrench?

Screw operated pullers has also annoying habit, that when something is really tight. It happens that the axle starts to turn along with the puller.

When removing gear from the electric motor for example. You need to find the way to lock the axle, to be able to tighten the puller.

looks good. Can one buy puller bodies to be used with porta power pumps?
